“They weren’t the same and you know it. Besides, the people there were making me itch.”
“Remind me again why you do what you do for a living?”
“Because I’m good at it. Also, if I stopped, you would be lost. Do you even have a life outside of me?”
“Now that’s just rude.”
“Seriously. You work all the time.”
“And whose fault is that?”
“Yours. I find time for me and you know it.”
“You mean you find time to get high and stick your dick in things? While you are partying, I’m sleeping. Sleep is more important than risking STD’s,” she said with a laugh.
“Says you.”
“What are we going to do about Anton? He needs to go.”
“I know, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.”
“Micah, he lost 1.3 million dollars on that deal. Do you know how long it’s going to take to replenish that portfolio?”
“Of course I know. I’m not a fool. He may be an idiot, but he’s not high on my list of priorities right now.”
“Then what is?”
“You. Whiskey... this food. Isn’t there anything else we can talk about other than work? It’s the only thing we ever do, talk about work.”
“Because work is all we do.”
“Tonight is going to be different. Drink up,” he said, gesturing to her vodka water that she had barely touched. “Truth or Dare?”
“What?”
“Truth or Dare?”
Isabel looked over at her boss, trying to gage what his angle was. “Truth.”
“When was the last time you went on a date?”
“Never mind, I’m not playing this with you.”
“So dare then?”
“Ugh, fine dare.”
“Chug that drink.”
Her eyes went wide. “It’s nearly all vodka.”
“You chose dare, no going back. And come to think of it, this is your only chance to change your decision. Chug away little Izzy.”
Isabel took one look at her glass and regretted waking up that morning. Without a second thought, she tipped it back and let it fall down her throat. Shaking her head as she put the glass down, she looked over at Micah who was trying his best to hide a smile.
“There, I did it. Your turn, truth or dare?” she asked, wiping away the tears in her eyes from the awful drink.
“Truth,” he said as he called the bartender over to get another round.
