Isabel looked up as he came back into the room. He had changed out of his bloody dress shirt and was wearing a dark gray henley. It clung to his body in all the right places. She licked her lips at the thought of stripping it from his body. Micah’s appeal was never lost on her, even with tissues shoved up both of his nostrils.
“It’s still bleeding?”
“Not much. It will stop.”
“Are you sure you don’t want me to call the doctor?”
“I’m sure I told you to sit and eat. Yet here you are, not having touched your meal.”
“I wanted to wait for you. I figured it was only right considering... well, considering you cooked for me and I almost broke your nose. How bad does it hurt?” she asked, reaching up to touch just under his eye where she could see a slight bruise had started to form.
“Yes, but I’ve had worse,” he said, giving her a wink and gesturing to her chair.
“Why did you go through all this trouble? I appreciate it, believe me I do, but I feel bad. You should have woken me up hours ago. Now I’m going to be up all night trying to prep for tomorrow.”
“No, you won’t. I finished the reports,” he said, pouring himself a glass of wine and offering her one.
“You did what?”
“I finished.”
“But...”
“Izzy, it’s fine. Everything is ready for tomorrow. After dinner, you can relax, and tomorrow morning we will review everything. It’s been a long couple days, you could use the rest.”
“Sometimes I wish the world could see this side of you,” she said, staring across the table at the man who took her by surprise at every turn.
“You’re talking that crazy talk again... like the bit about the cat last night,” he laughed.
“The cat? You know what, never mind, I don’t want to know. Let’s just enjoy this amazing food and try for once not to argue.”
“We don’t argue.”
Isabel raised her eyebrows at the gorgeous man with tissues stuffed up his nose and gave a light laugh. “Let’s agree to disagree about that, Mr. Corsetti. Now eat your dinner before mine gets cold.”
She knew there was more he wanted to say, but instead of goading him, she followed his original instructions and ate. She was starving after sleeping straight through lunch. For once she was going to let everything go, enjoy Micah’s company, and head home for a good night’s sleep.
