Isabel visibly shook then finally spoke up, “He’s right Mr. Morales. I wish I could say I clocked him for some outlandish behavior, but unfortunately it was my clumsiness that caused this injury.”
“I see.”
“Should we get started? I have the portfolio recommendations here that we prepared for you both. As I have said from the beginning, we pride ourselves on full transparency here at Corsetti Financial, and it’s important to me you clearly understand the services we will provide for you in the future.”
“You’re talking like we already signed the paperwork, Ms. Diaz.”
“Well sir, that’s because I believe by the end of this meeting you will.”
Her smile showed so much truth it was impossible to argue with her. Isabel Diaz was a force to be reckoned with. Which in the current moment made him equal parts proud and terrified. He was going to be in a ton of trouble for what he just did, but it would be worth it. He and Izzy were inseparable. People constantly confused the state of their relationship and the truth was, he was tired of it. It wasn’t as if they could be together for real, however, it would do them both some good to just allow rumors to do what they do. If he played his cards right, he would get even more time with the most important woman in his life and repair his tarnished playboy reputation.
“You know you two should join us for dinner next Saturday night. We have a couple of friends we are meeting that I’d like to introduce you to. Are you free?”
“Iz? I don’t think we have anything planned, do we?”
The last two hours were the ultimate of highs and lows. Isabel was ecstatic they landed the deal, but it was going to cost her soul by the time it was over. Dating Micah? Where had he even come up with the insane idea to play along with Mrs. Morales’ mistaken conclusion?
“Honey, Saturday?”
“Oh, yes, sorry. Saturday would be fine. I don’t think we have anything planned. What time?”
“Seven, I’ll have my assistant send you the details. We are taking the yacht out for dinner. She’ll have you added to the guest list so you can get in to the neighborhood.”
Clients who had houses big enough to dock their yachts were something Isabel would never get used to.
“That would be great, I’m looking forward to it.” she said as she leaned in to give Mrs. Morales a hug and then shake Mr. Morales hand.
“We are here for you,” he said as he pulled her close to him.
She took a step back and smiled, “That’s okay Mr. Morales, most of our clients are here for me, not Micah. He’s used to it by now,” she said with a wink.
Micah laughed right on cue. “And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
They walked the couple down the hallway to the elevators and said their final goodbyes. The second the doors shut Isabel pulled her hand from Micah’s grasp and turned on him.
“Have you lost your fucking mind?”
“Izzy, relax. Let’s go into my office before we garner the attention of half the people who work for me.”
She pursed her lips in anger because he was right. This was the last place they needed to have a fight, especially since Ashley was privy to the news of their new relationship. Was it even new or was she supposed to pretend she had been dating him for years while he ran all over town sleeping with strangers? The media was going to have a heyday over this mess.
“Fine. But I swear Micah, if you fuck one woman while we are supposed to be dating and I hear about it, I will quit. You will not pull me down into your debauchery, do you hear me? I will not be the woman of Coral Gables that everyone talks shit about because her man can’t keep his dick in his pants.”
“Izzy, honey, we don’t even live in the Gables.”
“You know what I mean. And stop that ‘honey’ shit,” she forced out in a whisper as she turned on her heels and made her way for his office. With all the glass and nosey co-workers, it wasn’t really the best place to talk either, but this couldn’t wait until after work.
Micah stepped into his office and closed the door behind him. Not much help that would do, Isabel could already feel the eyes on them as they walked down the hallway. Turning to look at him, she could see three people pretending to have a conversation, however they were staring right at them.
“Who builds a glass office?” she said, waving her hand in the trio's direction as Micah turned to see what she was talking about. He stepped forward and opened the door back up, then issued a warning for them all to get back to work.
“Now, sit down so we can have a conversation like two adults.”
He used that voice on her, the one that made her want to crawl to him on her knees and beg for forgiveness even when she had done nothing wrong. She took a seat, realizing this was going to be harder than she thought.
“Can we start with the good news? Izzy, we just secured the largest piece of business this firm has ever had, and you look like you want to kill me.”
“I do want to kill you, because I worked my ass off for this, and rather than jumping up and down to celebrate, I have to deal with your lying ass. How are you going to get us out of this mess?”
