“Call Sofia and get some sleep. I’ll call you in the morning.”
“Send me the details of the hotel. I want to get on the road early.”
Micah hung up without saying goodbye. He put his empty glass in the sink and went to his room, stripped out of his clothes and crawled into bed. It still smelled like Isabel. The soft coconut scent of her lotion always reminded him of a sunny day. She was the light in his life he didn’t realize he had been missing. He pulled her pillow toward him and texted Sofia. It was late, and she was probably sleeping. He should have called hours ago, but that was just one of a million mistakes he had made lately.
Micah: Hey, sorry it’s so late. I should have called earlier, but I wanted to check on you.
Sofia: It’s been an eventful day.
Micah: Yeah I could say the same.
Sofia: My options were to admit to friends that asked about my long last family or take on the role of a woman who was a money hungry home wrecker.
Micah: I‘m sorry about all this. Unfortunately, the media loves gossip.
Sofia: How did your fiancée take it?
Micah: Not well. She left.
Sofia: Left as in called off the wedding or left as in went to the store.
Micah: Maybe somewhere in between. I haven’t been able to talk to her. She packed her things while I was still at the office. Luca just called a few minutes ago. He tracked her down for me. She is at a hotel up in Orlando.
Sofia: I‘m so sorry Micah, this is all my fault.
Micah: No, it’s not. You had no control over any of this.
Sofia: What are you going to do?
Micah: I‘m going to go get her.
Sofia: Do you need some company for the ride?
Micah: I think I‘m good. I appreciate the offer, though. Too drunk to drive tonight. I’m leaving early in the morning.
Sofia: Okay, let me know if you need anything. I feel bad all this happened.
Micah: Thanks... Sis.
He put the phone down on the wireless charger he had on his nightstand. This was the first time in weeks he was alone in his bed and it was terrible. Somehow he fell head over heels in love with Isabel Diaz. He could only hope that when this was all over, she felt the same way about him.
