“Are you sure?” I lay my forehead against her silky hair and breathe in her sweet scent.
“I took a test yesterday at lunchtime.” She glances over her shoulder at me and gives me a weak smile. “I was planning to surprise you this weekend, but your child had other ideas.”
After helping her clean up, I carry Ryanne into the bedroom and tuck her under the covers. “I’ll be right back.” I place a kiss on her forehead and rush down to my den to grab the diamond ring I hid weeks ago.
When I return, my exhausted baby girl is snoring softly and I don’t have the heart to wake her up. I put the ring in the drawer of my bedside table and lie down next to her. My eyes pop open when I feel her roll away from me. “Are you okay?” I hop up and follow her to the bathroom.
“Your child is already playing hardball with my bladder,” she grumbles before slamming the door in my face.
After we shower and dress, I finally get my chance. I sit Ryanne on the edge of the bed and reach into the bedside table for the box I hid earlier. Her breath catches as I open the box and pull out the diamond ring. “I bought this weeks ago.” I wipe a tear from her soft cheek. “I was waiting for the perfect moment to give it to you, but there’s nothing more perfect than you carrying my child. Please tell me you’ll marry me.”
“Oh my God.” She throws her arms around my neck. “Of course, I’ll marry you.” She pulls my head down and kisses me. I’m dying to discuss how soon we can make it happen, but my baby girl and her luscious body end up distracting me for the rest of the day.
