“What?”
“You randomly showing up at my hotel in my hallway.”
“Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t.”
“Mmm,” I grumbled.
The two of us stood silent for a few minutes, dancing around inside our heads until she spoke up. “Can I confess something?”
“What?”
“This isn’t technically my place; it’s my fiancé’s place. He brought me here once, and ever since, I’ve been coming whenever I need to clear my head.”
“What do you need to clear your head of?” I asked.
She looked at me, moonlight reflecting in her pools of brown. “You.”
“Come again?”
“I thought I had my mind made up about you, but you keep surprising me. And the more I try not to be, the more interested in you I become.”
“I thought you were engaged.”
She looked down at the diamond wrapped around her ring finger. “I am, and it kills me.”
I stepped toward her while peering down. “Maybe next lifetime?”
She exhaled sparse laughter from her nose. “Yeah, maybe.”
“Or,” I said, stepping closer, “I won’t tell if you won’t.”
Isa reacted by pressing her palm into my chest. “Take one more step, and I can’t be held responsible for my actions.”
I closed the space between us, pressing her spine against the car. “Is that a promise?”
“Yeah,” she breathed, lips nearing mine. “Kiss me.”
“Are you sure?” I asked, seconds away from pressing my lips against hers. We were so close, I could feel her erratic breath blowing against my face as she slowly dipped her chin.
“I’ve never been surer. All I want is your lips against mine right now.”
