“Yeah…”
“Listen, I know you probably still hate me, and I don’t blame you, but–”
“Isa, chill with all that. You are carrying my son. The least I can do is fight your demons when you can’t. I got you. Besides, all stress ain't good for the baby.”
“I know. You’re right. I–I just can’t stop shaking.”
“Try taking in slow deep breaths. Just close your eyes and focus on breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth,” I coached.
“I can’t stop shaking because I don’t know how I will tell Imani when she gets here, Eli. It’s one thing to tell her about our mom, but she’s going to die when I tell her about Bleu.”
“Bleu? What happened to him?”
“Our mom caused the car accident. The car she hit was Bleu’s. I was just with him! I ran into him downtown. We were talking, and then it started to storm, and I–what if he dies, Eli? What the hell am I going to tell Imani?”
“He’s not dead, right?”
“No,” she answered.
“Okay, so there’s still hope. Don’t count him out yet. All I want you to worry about right now is calming yourself down until I can get to you.”
“W–what? You’re coming here?”
“Yeah. I’ma see what I can do to get to you.”
She sighed. “You don’t know how much that means to me.”
“Say less. I’ma call you back.”
As rocky as things may have been between Isa and me, all that shit immediately went out of the window when she broke the news to me about her mother's death. The minute we hung up, I hit up my assistant to move my schedule around and get me on the quickest flight from Vegas to Isa’s doorstep.
