“He’s easy on the eyes, isn’t he?”
“Yes, he is, but that’s not what I meant.”
“Sure, it’s not.” She gave me an exaggerated wink as she nodded her head.
I laughed as I squeezed my hand into a fist remembering the shocks. “We kept shocking each other.”
She furrowed her brow. “What do you mean?”
“Static electricity. We zapped each other.”
She drifted off into thought for a few minutes before shaking her head a little. “Huh... Weird.”
“Yeah, it was. It was also weird that he’d come here. That’s why I went to see him. I needed to know the real reason behind his visit. How many times have I been in fights with assholes from his pack? Not once has he come by to check on me.”
“That makes sense. What did he say to upset you so much though?”
I didn’t want to talk about it, so I gave her the shortest version I could. “Chris assaulted nine shifter women. Liam killed him.”
“What? Nine? How did it get up to nine? Why didn’t the first one tell her Alpha?”
My gut reaction was to get angry at her for placing the blame on the victim, but then a glimmer of clarity made its way through the alcohol and anger induced fog. Why hadn’t any of the women gone to their Alpha? Rape was worse than murder within the packs, an Alpha would have taken immediate action, no questions asked.
“That’s a great question. Why didn’t they say anything when it happened?”
“Maybe Chris had threatened them?” Stella offered.
“With what? He was a fucking pissant. I’m surprised none of them could fight him off. Something more is going on here.”
“Like what?”
I nibbled on my lip as I searched for an answer, but nothing came to me. “I don’t know, but I’m sure as hell going to find out.”
