“Oh…my apologies.” He looked at me, then Bran. “So, you’re not experiencing difficulty getting pregnant through sex.”
I nearly choked. “No. No sex for us.”
Bran’s embarrassment morphed into a scowl.
Perhaps I was a little too forceful in my negative tone about sex with Bran. Especially since I’d had a few erotic dreams of Bran in the past. The guy was hella annoying, but he was extremely handsome and had the body of an Adonis.
“Well, the procedure is the same. We need a thorough exam of you. We can do it here. I can schedule it before you leave.”
“Can she have it done today?” Bran asked.
I glared at him again.
“What? It’s not like you have anything else to do, right? Besides, it’s part of the deal. Twenty-four seven, remember?”
I made a face and then turned my attention back to the doctor who was studying us.
“Are you sure this is what you want?” he asked me.
No. “Yes.”
“Once we know everything is okay, we’ll track ovulation and do the procedure then. Mr. Erickson will supply a sample. We have a room here where you can do that.”
I smirked, thinking about Bran jacking off. But then thinking of him stroking his dick made my breasts tingle and my pussy clench. Dammit. I couldn’t think about Bran like that.
“Mr. Erickson, it’s recommended that you don’t have sex two to five days before sample collection to make sure sperm count is high.”
I couldn’t help myself. “That won’t be a problem, will it? I don’t see women busting down your door.”
His eyes narrowed and, for a moment, I wondered if he was going to change his mind. I was too much trouble.
He looked at the doctor. “How soon can she get pregnant?”
“For women under thirty-five, IUI, artificial insemination, rates are about 15 percent—”
“Fifteen percent?” That sounded really low.
“But for surrogates that rate is higher. Closer to seventy-five percent. It could take several cycles, even a year—”
“A year?” I hadn’t signed an agreement with Bran yet. We were supposed to do that after this visit. Based on this information, I might have to commit to more than a year to this endeavor.
“There has to be a faster way.” Bran must have been thinking the same thing I was.
“Well, there’s in-vitro fertilization.”
“What’s the difference?” I asked.
“In IUI, we insert the sperm directly into your womb during ovulation. For IVF we extract an egg and fertilize it, and then implant the fertilized egg back in your womb.”
I shook my head. That sounded way too invasive. I nearly recommended we just do it the old-fashioned way between two sheets, but then remembered I didn’t want to have sex with Bran.
“The first step is your exam. Shall we schedule that?” Dr. Schorr looked at me expectantly.
I nodded.
“The sooner the better,” Bran said.
After the clinic visit, we headed to Bran’s office to sign the paperwork for this crazy deal.
