“But also, Harper can’t know.”
I nodded. “I told you I wouldn’t tell her.”
She sucked in a breath. “I’ll also need some free time. You can’t keep me under lock and key 24/7.”
My jaw tightened. “How will I know you and the baby are safe?”
She rolled her eyes. “We don’t go bungee jumping—”
“No, you go clubbing. I’m not going to let you drown my child in alcohol.”
“That’s not all we do. I mean it Bran; it needs to look like I’m living my normal life.”
I arched a brow. “In a new apartment and pregnant without getting a job?”
“I’ll tell them I’ve gotten a job, just not what I do or with who.”
I thought of Rachel and how perfect she’d been and yet I couldn’t pull the trigger to hire her. The woman I wanted for this job was sitting in front of me.
“Fine, but when you go out, you’ll have security.”
“Only if they’re incognito. People will get suspicious if they see bodyguards around me.”
It took me a moment but finally I relented. “Fine.”
“And no sex.”
I’d assumed the tryst on my couch was a one-time deal, but I saw another opportunity to mess with Anne.
“You enjoyed it as much as I did. And Anne, I did enjoy it.”
She shifted in her chair. She tried to glare at me, but I saw the subtle flash of heat in her eyes. “You kissed me.”
“You kissed me back. You grabbed my dick too if I remember correctly.”
She shook her head. “We don’t need a replay. From now on, no sex.”
“Fine. No problem.” I wondered if she could see the disappointment in my expression. “Anything else? Do you need a specific brand of sparkling water or—”
“No.”
I picked up my phone. When my secretary answered, I said, “Can you send Jim in?”
“Who’s Jim?” Anne asked.
“My lawyer. We’ll have him make the changes in the contract now, and we can sign before you leave.” I didn’t want to risk her changing her mind.
“Fine.”
Jim arrived and I told him of Anne’s changes. “I’ll draw up new papers,” he said, leaving my office.
“How about lunch?” I asked her.
She arched a brow.
I rolled my eyes. “It’s not a date, Anne. You need to eat. I’m offering to pay, or do you need another ten thousand for that?”
