“Would you like me to have Mrs. Carlisle bring your dinner up when it’s time?”

God. Was he going to relegate me to my room now that I was pregnant? The deed was done so he didn’t need to spend time with me anymore.

“That would be nice.”

“I understand that fatigue is common in early pregnancy. Take as much time to rest as you need.”

I nodded, hating how disappointed I felt that he didn’t want to be around me now.

He left my room and sank back into bed. What had I gotten myself into?

I pressed my hand over my belly again and tears flowed. It was a clear as day that I wouldn’t be able to walk away.
