He shrugged. "I used to be a mercenary. I don't do that sort of thing now, but if you wanted, I could go break his legs or something.
I laughed. It was because it was nice to have an ally against my father.
"I just rather not have to deal with him anymore. I really thought he couldn't surprise me by his actions, but he did take me off guard today."
Dax pulled the car out into traffic. "Family can be a blessing and a curse."
So far in my life, family had been a curse. I told my dad that I was glad my child would never know him, and yet a part of me was sad because it seemed like children needed grandparents.
But that thought was followed by the realization that it wouldn't matter if my father and I got along because my child wouldn't get to know him anyway.
I looked out the side window to hide the threat of tears.
I was going to have to leave Bran and this baby, and God only knew what my father would say when he found out about that. Of course, I didn't care what he thought about me anymore.
I would endure my father's wrath every day for the rest of my life if I could be in Bran and my child's life.
