She pressed her lips together to prevent herself from snapping at him.

Nia bent and hugged her before walking off with her daddy.

“Let’s get you girls in the car.”

She hadn’t noticed when a large car pulled up behind them, and a young man got out and came toward them.

“Here’s your car, sir. I’ll take the wheelchair back in for you.”

“Thank you.”

Trey grabbed her upper arm and gently pulled her up so she didn’t strain her ribs. He got her settled in the front seat and made sure her seatbelt was fastened.

She watched him get into the car, folding his huge body into the seat—no wonder the car was big.

They pulled out into the street.

“Where are we going?”

“Home.”

Jenna looked over her shoulder at Kyla to see her looking out the window. She noticed her friend looked relaxed and happy, and she felt like an asshole when she hadn’t seen earlier how much stress their lifestyle was causing her.

When they stopped at a stoplight, she pulled her gaze away from her friend only to see Trey staring at her with a smile on his face.

“You’re both safe now,” he told her, and she wondered how he knew what she was thinking.

She shrugged. “I already know that.”

“Good.”

“I can take care of both of us,” she said.

“Now, you don’t have to.”

She huffed at the sarcasm in his tone. “We’ll talk about this more later.”

He nodded. “I’m sure we’ll have a lot to talk about.”

She sniffed in disdain and turned to look out her window and ignore him. She gritted her teeth when he just chuckled.
