Mistress of the Damned - Page 49

“It’s gorgeous, Azil. But where on earth would I wear something like this?”

“You could wear it to the bedroom for all I care.”

I rolled my eyes and talked him into putting it back on the rack. I already had enough gifts from him that were probably going to obligate me to something later on.

We left the dress shop, and I watched as Xagon went to a street vendor and ordered food to be put on the ship. Azil slinked his fingers through mine, and we were suddenly holding hands. I looked down at our intertwined fingers, and wondered how the hell I was going to get myself out of this one.

“Shall we get something to eat, Princess?”

I smirked. I wasn’t sure whether I should laugh or cry. Azil really couldn’t help it. He was charismatic and elegant, saying all the right things. It was easy to get taken in by his charm. It just rolled off his tongue in a way that made you want to sit and listen to him speak all day.

“Sure, why not.”

We went to a dining room that served plenty of seafood, which wasn’t surprising since it was floating on water. I was going to take advantage of devouring some octopus and lobster, while Azil ordered beans, rice, and bread. He ordered a jug of wine and the drinks started flowing.

“Is Xagon not joining us?”

“No, he needs to take care of getting the supplies and food to the ship before we leave. He will join us at some point, but our food supplies ran pretty low thanks to you bringing food to the prisoners.”

I smiled. “Well, maybe you should order some extra then, just in case.”

He leaned in and softly kissed me on the mouth. I closed my eyes, trying to avoid a spell. His tongue grazed my lips, but I would not allow him inside. He licked my lips and I started to feel a little warm. He was sitting right beside me and his hand fell on my leg. It moved upwards towards my pussy and I put my hand on his, stopping it from going further. I wasn’t letting him get close to me, not after what he pulled with me in his cabin. I had to keep my bearings about me, and not be put under any more Siren spells. He winked at me and returned to pouring the wine in our goblets.

I drank one all the way down and allowed him to fill it again. We were waiting for the food and I listened to him chatter.

“Do you do this often? Go shopping on random floating islands, right after being attacked by pirates?”

“We have to give them something good to steal, don’t we? And they are Sirens, my dear, just like us.”

“Do you go around attacking other ships?”

“No. We don’t have time for that. I told you, we are slavers and traders. We don’t have time to rob other ships.”

“Well then, they are pirates and nothing more.”

He smiled. “Fair enough, my beautiful lady.”

“I think that you should let Drayven free.”

He blinked. “That came out of nowhere.”

“Not really. We were talking about pirates, and he saved me that day. Why are you punishing him? You should be letting him help us.”

“You mean, help you.”

I rolled my eyes. “By protecting me, he essentially protects the ship.”

“And what do you make of the fact he thinks you are Queen Lilith reborn?”

“It’s ridiculous,” I said with a smile. “I don’t see how there could possibly be any truth in the matter. Don’t tell me you believe what the stowaway had to say.”

He watched me for a moment and I avoided his gaze. “No, sweet Flipp, I don’t.”

Our food arrived and I dug into the seafood to avoid further conversation about me being Queen Lilith. I didn’t realize that he had been thinking about what Drayven said. It caused me a bit of concern. We were almost through the jug of wine and finishing up our dinner when Xagon walked in. He sat down at the table and poured himself some wine.

“Are we settled on the boat, Xagon?”

Xagon just nodded, and drank the wine. Something was up with him, and I had no idea what it was. I couldn’t tell if he was upset that Azil was all over me, or if it was something else. I was starting to get a bad feeling about being in the city. I just wanted to return to the boat and get on our way.
