Mistress of the Damned

“Hold on. Let her plead her case at least. She shouldn’t automatically be disposed of. You are wrong about her, she’s not dangerous at all.”
The Captain stopped and looked Azil over. “Fair enough, you can take this up with the Queen. But her decision is final. If the Queen wants her dead, she will be.”
My stomach rolled. Of all the ways I saw the trip going, this had to be last on the list. How was I going to convince the Queen to keep me alive?
I looked at Xagon. “Help me.”
“We’ll figure this out, don’t worry. I won’t leave you behind, Flipp.”
Tears welled in my eyes because I couldn’t trust him, even then. I couldn’t depend on the Sirens to save me. I was on my own.

I looked to Xagon. “Where is Drayven?”
He shrugged. “I guess he wasn’t your protector after all.”
My heart sank. It was so unlike Drayven to disappear and not be there when I needed it. He had sworn that he would protect me, and I had never needed him more than I did at that moment.
“Let’s go, monster. We’ll take you to see the Queen. She needs new entertainment anyway.”
They half dragged me off the boat and I could hear Azil freaking out about me needing a representative to stay with me. “You’re welcome to come with us and see her at the Palace, but she is being transported on her own.”
I knew then that I was doomed.
