The man in question only grinned.

When Corinne had told me she had entered into a deal with a shade, I was one of the few in the Club that hadn’t been surprised because I had learnt to barter and trade with shades and Demons from a young age. What I hadn’t been counting on was the fact that her bargain was with the first self-proclaimed Demon summoner himself, Solomon.

I looked upon the biblical figure, took in his fine robes and short-cropped hair. He chose to represent himself in this manner - as if this image of himself encapsulated the peak of his power - a time when he may have been fulfilled.

And yet despite his appearance, his malice bubbled just below the surface of his skin.

“It seemed fated somehow that you should be the one to shoulder the debt of her bargain when you yourself are bound to a Demon.”

Hadn’t I thought exactly the same thing only a few moments ago?

Solomon pushed the images of his own tale towards me, forcing me to watch his death play out in a haphazard scene where a broken young woman stood on the sidelines, encouraging him to summon Demons that seemed of higher rank than his skill level allowed for. She urged him forward until his foot snuffed the protective summoning circle that held the beasts at bay, and as soon as the line was broken, they devoured him whole.

He fed me image after image, forcing me to watch his gruesome death, but it wasn’t his demise I watched, instead, I noticed the Witch slip away and embrace her freedom.
