“Better and better. I don’t even like my family most of the time.” Tamsin’s father had washed his hands of his only daughter the day he married his second wife. And when she’d given birth to a son, Tamsin may as well have moved to Australia.
“In that case,” Priya said. “It’s time to choose your wedding dress.” Meg started towards her trunks, but Priya stopped her. “Tamsin and I already brought you some of our dresses and my lady’s maid has agreed to alter your choice before morning.”
“But I have dresses.”
Priya and Tamsin exchanged a speaking glance. “You can’t get married in a dress with a hole in the sleeve, no matter how exquisite your embroidery might be. You deserve something special.”
“Oh, I really couldn’t,” Meg said, when Tamsin opened the wardrobe, hanging with beautiful dresses. “I can’t ask your lady’s maid to stay up all night sewing.”
Priya rolled her eyes. “It will take her an hour or two at most. She’s very skilled in needlework and hostage negotiations. She’s getting a week’s vacation when we get back to London and a trip to Gunter’s for ices.” She raised her brows, going in for the kill. “It’s that or one of the gowns Lady Blackwell sent over. With matching wigs.”
“I would love to wear one of your dresses.”
