I nod. What else can I do?
He presses a kiss against my cheek before leaving me alone.
Not wanting to run into anyone else right now, I use the private shower and change back into my street clothes before shoving everything in my locker.
I make my way back to Hanks’s office, knocking this time when I reach the door and it’s closed so I wait for him to yell out.
“Come in!”
I push the door open and smile at Hank before nodding at the man sitting opposite him. He’s striking in a way that makes you take a second look. His eerie gray eyes look almost silver in the light. His dark hair is long on top and short on the sides, and his jaw and cheeks are covered in dark stubble that makes me wonder how many women have felt the burn of it between their thighs.
He smiles at me, a dimple popping in each cheek as his eyes drop down my body, cataloging everything before his gaze returns to my eyes.
“Mal, this is Law. Law, Mal. He was just leaving, so if you give me five to see him out, I’ll be all yours.”
“No rush. I’m going to be here for a while anyway. If you see Vega, can you stall him for ten minutes or so? I need to make a call.”
“I knew he’d be here the second he heard you were back.” Hank chuckles as if he knows something I don’t.
“You from here? I haven’t seen you around. I know I’d never forget that face.” Law smiles at me.
“Ooh, smooth and pretty.”
“I also have a great personality. Seems I have the whole trifecta most women want.”
I wince and look at him as if he’s made a huge error.
“Damn, I don’t know where you’ve been getting your information, but women don’t really want that at all. It’s all a myth.”
“Oh, really? Please, oh wise one, tell me what I need to know to enchant a beautiful woman such as yourself.”
“It’s simple, really. We don’t want false platitudes and pretty words. We want dad bods with big cocks.”
His eyes widen with shock before he bursts out laughing. Lifting his white T-shirt to reveal a spectacular set of abs, he grins at me.
“I have one out of two. That’s gotta count for something, right?”
“Jesus, I do not need to hear this,” Hank grumbles.
Law drops his shirt before walking toward me. “Okay, tell me. If I wanted to woo a fine woman such as yourself, what trinkets would dazzle you enough to look past my flaws?”
I shake my head, finding his teasing amusing. “I’m not a trinkets kind of girl, but if I were, I could buy my own.”
“Flowers then?”
“Allergic,” I fib, but decide to throw him a bone. “The answer is always food. Piss me off, bring me food. Want sex? Bring me food. Need an alibi—”
“Bring you food. Although, as an ex-cop, I’m interested in what kind of food would be worth the risk of giving someone an alibi.”
A cop? Fuck. I almost snort. His name is Law. How much of a dumbass can I be?
“What can I say? I like to live dangerously. For a really good alibi, go with chocolate strawberries. There isn’t much I won’t do for those.”
“That is good to know.” He reaches for my hand and lifts it to his lips.
“An unexpected pleasure.”
“The pleasure was all yours.”
