Ain't No Sunshine - Page 24

Within seconds, our clothes come off, protections in place, and I’m sinking into her, groaning at the way her body molds to mine. Cory wraps her legs around me to pull me even closer as I grip the couch above her head, pounding into her as hard as I’ll allow.

She meets me thrust for thrust, crying out when I change angles and bury myself deeper, hitting that spot that’s difficult to find. Her nails dig into my back like she’s intentionally causing pain, and I welcome the feeling.

Our sex life has been amazing lately. I have no complaints. But this is something else. It’s hard and fast and primal, and… shit! Forcing myself to slow it down, I swivel my hips in a rhythmic motion to change the pace. Losing control is not an option.

When I feel her getting close, I move a hand between us, giving her the pressure she needs while biting her nipple once more.

She screams out in ecstasy, and squeezes me so tight I see stars as my release is ripped out of me. ”Fuck!”

As soon as we’re done, Cory stands and gets dressed. I follow her lead, and when I’m back in my clothes, I sit on the couch. I’m still not leaving.

“I know you’re angry. I could feel it with every thrust. I fucked up. I know that. You have every right to be angry. But we’re not breaking up. It’s almost sorted anyway,” I tell her, refusing to even entertain the idea of being without her. She may have every reason to walk away, but I know she doesn’t want that.

“Almost?” she asks sceptically.

“Yes. I told her I don’t want to be a part of her scheming. As soon as she’s away from my parents, I’m telling them. I just didn’t think it was fair to do it before their flight home together.”

Cory’s face softens again. “Okay. Out of curiosity, why did she do it?”

I sigh. I don’t like to share other people’s secrets, but I don’t want to keep anything from Cory. “Liv’s father died when she was little, and her mother was pretty messed up afterwards. She apparently disgraced the family and then disappeared. Our parents were best friends, and our families, well, we all come from money. I shouldn’t be telling you all this, but I need you to trust me. To know…

“Her grandparents took her in, but they never treated her well, at least, not until we started dating. I guess being associated with our family helped them rise back up in the ranks. From the moment we got together, her grandparents changed. They started supporting her, both financially and emotionally. They helped her get a job at a great company and even seemed proud to be raising her. They weren’t thrilled when we broke up, but what could they do?”

“Nothing,” she answers.

“Not exactly.” I pause, and Cory raises an eyebrow.

“Apparently, they added a condition to her trust fund. She needs to be in a relationship with me, or the money gets donated. They’ve got more money than anyone would ever want, but they need the power back and claim that they get that by associating with us… Anyway, like I said, it’s bullshit.”

Cory stares at me for a while. She knows my family is well off, but I never really talk about the politics that go along with it. She sighs and then frowns. “Does Liv have money without it?”

“She can work for it, like the rest of us.” I say and watch as Cory raises her eyebrows in disbelief.

“Says the trust fund baby.” Ouch, that hurt. Is that what she thinks of me?

My face scrunches as I think of a response.

“I’m kidding, Nate. But, it’s not really fair for you to say that about her when it’s something you’ll never have to consider.”

She has a good point, but it’s out of my hands.

“When does the trust come in?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

“When.” Cory raises her voice slightly, confusing me. I thought I’d made the right decision, but she still seems mad.

I grip my shoulder and sigh. “In about a month. When she turns twenty-one.”

“Okay,” Cory says, nodding her head. Huh?

“Okay, what?”

“She can have a month, but I can’t be with you. The thought of being intimate while you’re still with her, it’s just…” She trails off and shudders at whatever thought she has in mind.

“I’m not—” with her… I start to argue, but she cuts me off, and I cringe at the lack of emotion in her voice.

“Even if it’s fake.”
