I jump up from my seat and fall to the floor as a truckload of water soaks me to the core. Well, that’s sobering.

My first instinct is to look up to the sky, to see what the hell happened, but instead of rain, I find Dylan and Joel glaring down at me. What the fuck? I’m the one who got drenched.

“Are you kidding me with this, Nate?”Dylan yells, pointing behind me.

I honestly have no idea what he’s talking about. I was here, minding my business, when—

“Are you going to let them get away with soaking us, Nate?” Us? Huh?

My eyes move behind me to find a busty blonde perched on top of the chair I just vacated. My brows furrow in confusion. Where did she come from?

I shoot the guys an ‘I got nothing’ look and pull myself up. Whoa! Easy there… maybe I should have moved to sit first. Stabilizing myself, I catch Dylan’s gaze to see his eyes narrow in disappointment.

“What? What!?” I yell, getting frustrated. And tired. I think I need a nap. Ooh, yes, a nap would be great right about now. If only I could get past the... Focus, Nate. “What did I do?” I ask.

“For one… you were pretty cozy with blondie over there,”Dylan states, pointing at the girl beside me.

“Hey!” Blondie yells, but we all ignore her. In fact, I’d already forgotten she was there.

“And… number two?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.

Dylan practically roars at me. “You’re acting like a fucking—”

“What Dylan’s trying to say is that you’re not acting like yourself, and it’s hurting the people you love,” Joel says with a steady voice, cutting Dylan off.

Dylan clears his throat. “What he said.” Huh? I still don’t know what I did wrong, but I’m sure it’s something I can apologize for tomorrow. Right now, I need food. What happened to the nap? Hmmm… nibbles in bed?

I walk away without listening to another word.

I’ve just finished raiding the kitchen when I hear a loud bang at the back door. I peak around the corner in time to see an angel moving my way. She’s beautiful with her long copper hair falling across one shoulder, her perfectly kissable lips covered in a glossy shine, and the most breathtaking eyes that are currently drilling a hole through my heart.

She moves closer, and I try to think of everything I want to say to her, but more specifically, what I want to say first.

Why couldn’t you trust me?

I’m sorry.

You didn’t even listen.

I miss you.

You broke my heart.

Can we just start over?

I hate you.

I love you.

She stops in front of me, and I open my mouth, prepared to unload all my feelings on her. But when our eyes lock, all of my thoughts disappear.

“Cory,” I say with a nod.

“Nate,” she replies.
