Queen of Love

“Anything?” Genevieve whispered.
A curt nod threatened to make her dreams come true. “Oyasumi nasai.”
“That means good night.” Genevieve brought herself directly in front of Aya’s path. “You… you have a good night… t…”
She didn’t believe it was happening at first. Not until Aya kissed her, fingertips against the bottom of Genevieve’s chin. No wonder she needed to change hands for her briefcase.
No wonder I’m about to explode. Genevieve clutched the shoulders in front of her, steadying herself against the onslaught of feelings now consuming her. She kisses like she may never have the chance to do it again.
“That…” Genevieve cleared her throat when Aya stepped away. “That was bold. Right in front of the doorman.”
“He’s not paying attention to us,” Aya said, back slightly turned. “That ojiisan thinks I’m a man. Have a good night.”
She walked away. Genevieve remained where she stood, hand on her heart and those words percolating in her mind. I don’t care who knows. She supposed she cared if Aya got in trouble with her office, and Genevieve came from a place and family where love lives were kept in the dark until a formal engagement announcement was made.
She cared who knew. She cared a lot.
I want the whole world to know now. Genevieve didn’t hide the grin on her face as she walked into the hotel lobby. The doorman was polite but didn’t suggest anything untoward. I don’t know where this is going with her, but I like the ride so far.
The concierge asked if she needed anything. Genevieve told them no, but deep down she thought, All the time in the world. The way she could savor that kiss for as long as she wanted.
