Frantic (The Omegaborn Trilogy 2) - Page 11

“It won’t break. It’s been designed to take a bullet and still not shatter,” I explained, and he roared, clearly as pissed off as I was.

They’d taken all of our weapons, leaving us defenseless aside from our fists.

We were going to have to fight our way out one way or another, but we’d have to wait until the time was right.

“Relax. Conserve your strength for now. We’re not going anywhere, especially not while all of them are watching,” I finally admitted begrudgingly. I sighed and stood up, walking over to the bed where Triss still slept.

She looked so innocent sleeping underneath the white quilt, but I knew better than that. She was a bad little omega who had been sentenced and punished for her role in the ousting of another omega scientist. For her role in the whole mess, she’d been put outside the city and forced to enter estrous once the suppressants wore off. She’d been made to suffer the same shame and humiliation she’d put the other woman through, but because her family came from money and for the work she’d done for the city, she was going to be allowed back into the city.

I bet she hadn’t seen herself ending up like this.

Once, she’d been a scientist. Now, she was only an omega. She was nothing more than an animal in their eyes.

The city would strip her of her entire identity. She’d be nothing more than her genes dictated, as would I. The suppressants no longer functioned to quash my alpha instincts so I would be deemed too dangerous to be allowed out into Tharia society anymore.

The two of us were doomed to live out our lives in the basement of Genwell. Fated to be science experiments for the rest of our days, just like the other alpha and omega pair they kept down in their depths.

I sighed. Frustration ebbed and flowed within my body, mixing with my fury and residual exhaustion from the tranquilizer. My emotions were far more intense than I was used to, and my fingertips tingled with the power of them.

Triss’ sweet aroma made my nose twitch and I realized her eyes had begun to open. She was finally awake.

“Little omega,” I mused, and she blinked and lifted her head, her gemstone green eyes finding mine. I admired the rich color for a moment, recognizing little flecks of yellow and blue in those captivating irises of hers.

“Ravick,” she whispered, and I stared down at her, curling up the side of my lips in a gentle grin.

Lothgar and Garret finally joined us, but their anger was still palpable. They were not pleased about our current housing arrangements. Not at all.

Triss sat up, looking at the soft bed in confusion.

“This isn’t my bed,” she observed and the three of us remained quiet.

She looked around, first at the white walls and then at the glass.

“My gods,” she eventually whimpered, her voice hardly even audible. A soft growl emerged from her throat, voicing her obvious displeasure at being captured and cornered like we were. Then my sweet little omega lost all semblance of control.
