Emilia

Emilia awoke suddenly to the sound of her alarm.

She had been dreaming of slow, sensual kisses and a big hard body pressed to hers.

Her heart was still pounding as she reached for her bracelet on the table beside her bed. After some fumbling, she got her hand around it and silenced the alarm.

It was very early, but last night she had decided she wanted to be extra sure she was fully ready to face the day before the kids woke up.

Now she was wishing she had set the alarm just a little later so she could see where that dream was going.

She undressed in the semi-darkness and padded into the bathroom to freshen up and start a warm bath. The deep tub filled swiftly and felt incredible as she lowered herself in. As she soaked in the rapturous heat, it was hard not to think of her dream.

She had obviously been dreaming about Ra’as, though in the dream she hadn’t looked at his face.

Now she was thinking about his pale eyes as the dream replayed in her memory, and she was imagining Ra’as Drayven’s hard muscle under her hands, and the heat of his mouth patiently devouring hers.

The dream was still so fresh in her mind, she found herself feeling desperate for relief.

But she didn’t know the kids’ morning routines well enough to be one hundred percent sure Mimi wouldn’t come banging on the door. So, she bathed quickly and hoped the hum of frustration would ease as she distracted herself with what was sure to be a busy day.

She quickly finished her bath and dried off, then dressed in another of the practical outfits inspired by Pralexx.

She was a little worried that her thoughts would be apparent on her face if she bumped into Mr. Drayven. But surely her modest clothing would convince him that her intentions in his home were pure.

Sun gods, please don’t let him suspect what I dreamed about.

Once she was dressed, she headed down to the children’s wing on the second floor.

She could just see the second sun rising over the forest from the staircase windows. It was so beautiful that it looked like something out of a fairy tale.

When she reached the second-floor landing, she turned to head to the children’s rooms, deliberately not glancing down to the other end of the hall where their father’s off-limits rooms could be found.

She planned to knock on Dyrk’s door first, since he needed to get ready for school, but when she reached the door at the end of the long corridor, she saw that it was already open.

“Good morning,” she said. “Are you ready for—”

But she broke off when she saw him furtively trying to hide something behind his desk.

“What’s that?” she asked, instinctively heading over to see.

He cradled a small potted plant in his arms, a stormy look on his face.

She wasn’t sure what she had been expecting, but it definitely wasn’t that. Could the plant be some kind of Ulfgardian drug?

“It was my mom’s,” Dyrk said defensively, still gripping it tightly.

“Is that an azulaflower?” Emilia asked, suddenly recognizing the delicate blue buds.

Of all the things a teenage boy might be doing alone in his room, she figured she had been pretty lucky.

“Yeah,” he said, swiping his too long hair out of his eyes to meet hers.

“It’s beautiful,” she told him. “Did you know it’s not just a flower?”

“What do you mean?” he asked, forgetting to glare at her.

“If it’s pollinated, it produces a really tasty fruit,” she told him.
