Wow, that was a little forward.

Emilia gasped when she felt something hard under his shirt.

He chuckled.

“You have a chest piercing?” she asked, in awe.

He pulled her close.

“That’s not the only thing that’s pierced, little one,” he murmured into her ear. “Do you want me to release the privacy screen so you can see?”

She blinked up at him.

“Or more than see?” he offered. “If you’d like.”

“Y-you work here,” she murmured stupidly.

“Times are lean, little girl,” he whispered hotly. “A man has to seize the day.”

Sun gods, they really were short on women on this planet.

“I’m not feeling so well,” she said.

“I can take you home,” he offered. “I haven’t used vacation days in two rotations. Let me take care of you. It will be my pleasure to see to your every need.”

“I have to find my friend,” she said firmly.

To her relief, he let go of her immediately.

“Come back and ask for me if you ever change your mind,” he said, touching his bracelet to hers.

She felt it buzz, but she was already out of her cage, pushing through the crowd to the other cage. where April had disappeared.

But a screen had been activated around it and her friend and the tentacled man couldn’t be seen.

Holy cow. April wasn’t wasting any time.

Her bracelet buzzed again, and she rolled her eyes, assuming it was the man from her own cage pleading his case.

But when she looked down, she saw this was a comm from April.

I’m really sorry, but I have to leave now. Are you okay getting home?

Wow. April had seemed fun-loving enough, but Emilia hadn’t expected her to disappear with a guy after like three minutes.

She typed back.

I’m fine. Are you sure YOU’RE okay?

A moment later the reply came in.

Very sure. Thanks for hanging out, Emilia. Let’s do it again someplace quieter! xxx

Emilia shook her head and pushed her way through the crowd for the doors, hoping she could get out unscathed.

Bodies pressed against hers, most unnecessarily. But no hands or tentacles wrapped around her wrists or grabbed her.

When she finally pushed her way outside, the cold, starry night nearly took her breath away.
