“But they should be purple,” Bo decided. “Or blue.”
Khall ruffled Bo’s hair and April felt her heart tighten a little in her chest as Bo’s little face deepened to a richer green with pleasure.
She turned quickly and opened the warmer, smiling when she saw a massive slice of pizza on the tray.
It might not be the most nutritious dinner, but it would hit the spot. She pulled a can of soda from the ice box and retreated to her room before they had a chance to notice her.
As she walked down the hall, she could hear them jeering at the program, as if the silly buyers had just made another faux pas.
There was something so wholesome about the idea of the three of them curled up on the sofa watching home programs. It made her feel happy.
She sat down at her desk with her dinner and 132 Tenets of Childcare & Maintenance and settled in for a quiet night of reading.
