Almost.

“What did you want to talk to me about?” he asked.

His eyes were guarded, and his posture was cagey, as if he thought she was about to hit him or scream at him.

“Bo is so smart,” she told him. “And she’s extremely empathetic. I’ve never seen such a small child be so perceptive when it comes to other people’s feelings.”

His face relaxed a little and he leaned forward.

“I love her passion,” she went on. “And I know it goes hand in hand with her temper. I want to help her harness all of it so she can enjoy herself, and so that other people can see everything in her that you see, and everything I can see after only a single day.”

His face went blank, and she wasn’t sure if it was from anger on understanding.

“With that in mind,” she charged on, “I think encouraging her caring instincts will help her feel the control and assurance she needs to loosen her temper. I was hoping you might reconsider the idea of a pet for her. The one she liked is a full-grown cat—”

“Enough,” he shouted suddenly, leaping to his feet. “I won’t have you second-guessing my decisions. I’m her father, and I’ve said no pets. That’s final.”

She gaped at him, wondering where she had gone wrong. It was one thing to say he wouldn’t think about a pet. It was another to yell at her.

Tears prickling her eyes, she stood and walked back into the house. The only mercy was that her humiliation caused her to temporarily forget her fear of heights.

She walked quickly to her room, hoping Bo wouldn’t see her. A single kind word might have tears running down her cheeks, and she wasn’t going to give Khall Rivvor the satisfaction.
