“Oh, look,” Bo said suddenly, her voice plaintive.
April followed her gaze to see the terrifying cat Bo loved, curled up and sleeping in the window of the pet shop, its ragged ear tucked under its dirty grayish-white paw.
A litter of brand-new kittens was playing in the cage right next to it, their fur so clean and puffy it almost looked like cotton candy.
But Bo only had eyes for Rocket Woman.
“She’s special to you, huh?” April asked.
Bo nodded.
They stood side by side for a moment, looking at Bo’s impossible dream while April wondered if some of hers might be coming true.
