Alien Pilot Needs a Nanny (Alien Nanny Agency 2) - Page 76

“But if I took that job we’d have to move,” he said.

“Where?” April asked.

“Out to the country, where the palace is being built,” he said. “I would need to be on call at all times.”

“Isn’t that where you always wanted to live?” she asked excitedly, thinking of the home shows he and the girls loved to watch.

He dried his hands on a towel and leaned back against the counter.

“This is where Minerva’s memories of her mother are,” he said simply. “I’m afraid to ask her to leave.”

“I think she could handle it,” April said carefully. “And didn’t you hear how excited she was about this job offer?”

“I don’t think she’s really all that interested in what I do,” he said with a smile.

April blinked at him, unbelieving.

But he didn’t react. He really didn’t see it, at least not yet.

“I think you should talk to her about it,” April said. “The move, and also the job. I know she would love for you to take the time to ask her opinion. And she’s a super-smart kid. You might be amazed at the ideas she has. I know she surprises me every day.”

Khall nodded slowly, fixing her with his smoldering, amber eyes. His muscles were on full display as he leaned back against the counter.

April felt her heartbeat speed up, as if he had just waved a conductor’s baton.

It was all she could do to stop herself from throwing herself at him.

Keep it together, April. He was so angry the last time.

“I, uh, guess I should head to bed,” she said, dragging her eyes to the floor. “Should I send Minerva out to chat with you on my way?”

There was a pause, during which she didn’t dare look up at him.

“Sure,” he said, at last. “Please do.”

She scurried off before she could do something stupid.
