“Minerva,” he said quietly. “That’s the cadet program. It’s part of the Air Brigade.”
She nodded, her eyes shining.
“No,” he said, standing.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“No,” he repeated, trying to keep the fury from his voice. “It’s not an option. We’re not discussing it.”
“But Dad, it’s what I want,” she said. “It makes me happy.”
Rage burned in his chest.
And April had known about this, known even before he had, and she’d said nothing. Had she even encouraged it?
“The answer is no,” he said darkly, turning to look out the window again.
He waited for her to speak, praying to hold onto his temper.
But after a moment, he heard footsteps. And then her bedroom door closed with a sound of finality.
He felt a pang of regret at the thought that she was closing herself off in her room again because of his anger.
But he could not let his daughter join the military. He just couldn’t.
