"All right, Tabs, obviously."
Gabe shook his head. "Nope, Tabs is needed here for another mission."
Saff bit her bottom lip. "All right, I’ll take Saint then."
Gabe's eyes went wide. "Are you sure?"
"With Massimo's expertise in technology, I’d like to have someone who knows what they’re doing on that front."
“Fair enough. We'll get him ready and introduced to the Royal Elite as well. Send him the day after you, maybe."
She nodded. "Um, how much backup will we have from the Royal Elite?"
"They will be your support, your egress, your safe house, all of it. You will also have help from the royal family, but obviously, they cannot provide you overt support. Understand?"
Her brow furrowed. "The queen is a Royal Guard, right?"
He laughed. "Of course, that would be what you remember about the Winston Isles."
"Hey, I remember when they got married. It was the hottest news."
Gabe dismissed the rest of the team and spoke to Saffron and I alone. "The two of you need to learn and work together. I want you to memorize these dossiers backward and forward. You need to be good enough to convince me, do you understand?"
Saffron gave him a brisk nod and he gave me a narrow-eyed glare. And then we were alone.
"Do you want to explain to me why your brother keeps looking at me like he wants to put a hole in my face?"
"That's just his face."
"Right. I feel like he didn't hate me as much a week ago."
“Do you think everything is about you?"
I shrugged. "Well, most things are."
She scowled at me. “Do you have your dossier with our undercover story? Have you even looked at it?"
“Yes, I’ve already studied it."
"Where did we meet?"
I grinned down at her. “It was actually a fix up. Your sister thought we'd be a good match, so she set us up on a blind date. And wonder of wonders, you actually tried to run away from me. I chased you down and talked you into going out with me for real."
She lifted a brow. “Yes, but can you say it with more passion, so someone would believe it?"
“You really want me to show you passion?"
She was so fucking hard to read. Yes, I was pushing her. Honestly. "Just tell me, why do you hate me again?"
“I don't hate you. I just don't think of you."
"Now that's not true. I've seen you watching me, Saff."
"That's Agent Abott to you."
I glanced down at the dossier. "Actually, no. It’s Angel. It says right there that I’m supposed to call you Angel because you are the angel of my life. And I’m supposed to say it lovingly too, I assume."
She just narrowed her gaze at me. "We have a job to do, King."
