She eyed him. Heather? Not Tie-Dye? He still, apparently, was refusing to call her Heart.
“I don’t see that happening,” she said.
“Why not?”
She shrugged. “I was engaged once. But he, well—” Nope. Not going there. Life had been better on her own, without these foolish longings that Tyler made her feel. And judging by that remark, he still had no intention of being the one to settle down with her. As they’d agreed.
“He what?” Tyler demanded in his quiet, but unyielding way. But at the mention of a he, his tone had tightened a degree.
She shrugged. “He wanted things I couldn’t give him.” Why had she told him that? She never talked about this with guys. Maybe because you never stick around with guys, Heart.
“Did you break his heart?” Tyler pressed, though the smirk quirking up his lips told her he was teasing.
