“Why would you say that?” Levi joins in, and that’s when I realize he’s enjoying this, too. “June tell you about that?”
Suddenly, Silas has nothing to say and takes a long drink of his beer instead. I glance over at Levi to find him looking at me. Then, after a moment, he smiles.
I get a warm, fuzzy feeling I can’t quite decipher.
“Where’s everyone else? They’re late,” Levi says, after another moment.
“I told them eight-fifteen instead of eight,” Silas says. “Figured you two might need a few minutes to get used to each other.”
Then he gives me a sweet, almost shy look, and his foot nudges against mine and my heart speeds up and my mouth goes dry. Across the table Levi is giving him a very strange, thoughtful look, like he’s seeing something for the first time.
“Oh,” I say, and I can feel myself blushing. “Thanks.”
