I can’t imagine what that must feel like.
Despite my inner turmoil, I have been wondering how it all happened. It certainly explains why he is the way he is. Not even I can blame him for that though.
The harsh echo of someone clearing their throat cuts into my thoughts.
I whirl around to see Aiden standing in the archway of the door leading back to the dining room.
My lips part when I take in the full vision of him and recall last night with perfect clarity.
How he tasted me, consumed me, and made me greedy for more.
And l feel like that again now.
How can I feel that way about a man who walked away from me after sharing something so wild and intimate?
“I think you’ve looked at that quite enough. Put it down,” he says, ordering me around like usual. The clipped tone of his voice snaps me back to reality giving me a reminder of who he is and what we aren’t. “Put it down and come here to me.”
With trembling hands, I replace the figurine on the mantle, take a deep breath and walk over to the man who’s overwhelmed me in so many ways.
With every step I take toward him the question of what will happen tonight rings through my mind.
Whatever happens, I don’t think my heart can take it.
