Merciless Hunter (Dark Syndicate 4) - Page 120

“You know I write content for the company website?”

“I did my homework too. So, gimme an answer.”

I think about the answer and it comes to me with memories of how drastic everything changed.

“Things took a turn I never expected,” That’s the short answer. “I just barely managed to finish college after everything happened. My dad’s death, my mom’s accident, and then Eric. I just lost my inspiration. It kind of went with my Dad. Sometimes I just write to forget.”

“Forget where you are?” he fills in and I hold his gaze.

He reaches out and touches my cheek. “I can’t let you go, Olivia.”

I glance down at my fingers. “I’m not doing anything being here.”

“Nothing you can see.”

I want to tell him how worried I am about my mother again, but I can’t bare hearing him tell me he doesn’t care.

It would hurt more hearing him say it now after all we’ve done over the last few days.

“I’m worried Jude will find out why I came here,” I say instead.

“He wants you back too much to worry about anything else.”

He sounds like he might know that as a fact. “Has something happened?”

His lips arch. “Something is always happening.”

“Aiden, what does keeping me here achieve? I can’t help you.”

“Olivia,” he says my name in the calmest voice he’s ever used with me. “I’m still keeping you, until I don’t have to. You’re a leverage I can’t afford to lose.”

A chill races down my spine at the reminder I’m leverage. My stomach knots when I think of how much longer I’ll be here. This isn’t something anyone can put a time limit on, but it sounds like things are happening. Knowing Jude, I’m sure they are.

He wants the company, and he wants me.

I’ve spent all my life feeling unwanted. It’s a juxtapose of shit I ended up caught between two men who want to keep me.

Aiden gets up with me and like I’m weightless, picks me up and sets me down on the chair.

“I’m away for the day again,” he says. “I have business at the club.”

“The club?”

The sex club I met him at where women probably throw themselves at him by the minute. Wasn’t I part of the harem of waitresses waiting to serve him?

Why do I even care?

“The club. You look like you have something you want to say, say it.”

“Why do you do business at a place like that? It’s a sex club.”

His lips curl into a smile. “Watch it, you’re starting to sound like my woman.”

I ignore the comment. “It’s an odd place to have a business meeting. Obviously you’re going there for something else.”

Do I care if he is?

Do I care if he goes to his club and has sex with one or more of his special waitresses?
