Heartless Lover (Dark Syndicate 5) - Page 120

Aiden looks over the sleek design of the Crucible and sighs.

“It looks like something from Star Trek,” he states, and I chuckle.

“You’re not far off, my grandfather loved that show.”

We’re in my office while Summer is cooking with Lyssa. I’d started on my plans yesterday when things calmed down and all the parts I’d ordered came in.

I worked on building the device all day. Aiden came to offer his assistance I have a few more things I need to adjust before we test it.

“I’m amazed you got this together so quickly,” he says.

“Me too, the design stage for anything usually takes a month because we’re testing materials and efficiency. This is a good version of a mock-up.”

“And it won’t disrupt anything else. I don’t want to be blamed if a plane falls out of the sky.”

“No, don’t worry. I assure you that won’t happen.”

“Good. How’s your girl?” There’s a sheen of curiosity in his eyes.

“My girl?” I raise my brows.

“Yes, don’t even try to deny it. You can’t after the other night. A man doesn’t just summon the powers of the Syndicate to retrieve and deal with a motherfucker who’d harmed a woman, if the woman in question didn’t mean something to him.”

“I guess he doesn’t.”

There’s a lot I haven’t told Aiden and much I’ll keep to myself, particularly Summer jumping off the balcony. I don’t want to talk about that ever again.

But I guess I can talk about what he’s driving at.

“She needed redemption and retribution.”

“And you gave it to her.”

“I certainly did.”

Aiden chuckles. “Well, for a few weeks people will scramble around trying to find out what happened to Ted. Then they’ll either think he killed himself or he’s missing in action.”

“I think they’ll believe he killed himself. He confessed some deep shit.”

Ted was reported missing last night by his wife. No one is going to find him though. When I finished with his body not even I recognized him. I sent it straight to the crematorium.

People will look for him and they won’t find a damn thing. It was the Chicago crew who retrieved him. On that side we have Claudius Morientz and Vincent Giordano, and they can pull the same strings we can here. The moment Ted saw them walk into his office; he knew he was dead. Aiden and Massimo collected his ass from the airport and took him to the interrogation chamber.

I didn’t particularly want Summer in a place like that but it needed to happen and I’m so glad she got to punch the motherfucker in his fucking face before I finished him off.

Now for the rest—Robert and Micah.

It’s not over yet. Ted was just one matter I never factored in and a sidetrack to the bigger problem at hand, and since I’ve only recently started looking at the future again. I’m still taking it one step at a time with Summer.

What I know right now is I want her to be mine and I don’t want to let her go. I’m not sure if that’s selfish of me because I’m still not a good man for her. I’m still danger and being in the Bratva brings the threat of death. I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

Aiden watches me as I finish syncing the computer with the device and it comes to life. I think as much as my grandfather never wanted this design made, he would have loved to see this. He was just like me so watching the lights come on and the synchronicity bar complete on the computer would have been a thrill.

The next thing I have to do is input the code for Robert’s device and program it’s destruction.

“Here goes, Pakhan.”

“I just hope like fuck it works.”

We’ll know if my other bots work. They should be able to pick up anything that captured Robert’s face in the last day.

I press the button on the device, and we wait for a minute. Another minute passes and then the notification alerts on my other computer goes bat shit crazy.

We both rush over there and see my success.

My plan worked and my recognition bots not only picked up Roberts face, but his location too, and he’s right here in L.A.
