Chapter Twenty-Four

Shades

Ace and I pull into the driveway of the stash house, as brazen as can fucking be because who in the hell leaves their stash house unprotected?

“This shit feels too easy,” I tell Ace as we walk right inside the house with the unlocked doors.

Ace nods. “It’s strange as fuck, I’ll admit that.” But his tone tells me that he has no plans to go back now.

I look around the house just to be sure we’re alone. The first room is empty with dirty walls and a small closet in the corner. The room across the hall is stacked with crates that pique my curiosity, and I look inside.

“Lots of drugs in here,” I shout to Ace.

“What kind?”

“Looks like powder,” I tell him. “Some weed too, but not much.” I reach for a bag of weed and grunt. “Skunk weed. Assholes.” Who in the hell makes money off shit weed in California in this day and age? Fucking assholes, that’s who.

“Got the cash,” Ace shouts, and I follow the sound of his voice to the back of the stash house. “The safe was fucking open. Can you believe it?”

He looks up at me with a grin, happy as a pig in shit that we retrieved the cash without even breaking a sweat.

But I sense something sinister here. Instead of returning my Prez’s smile, I stand a little taller as that feeling settles deep in my gut.

“Grab the cash, Ace.”

His smile fades, and he stands up with his hands full of cash. “What?”

Before I can say anything more, the door to my right opens, and two Iron Kings walk out with guns aimed our way.

“You didn’t really think we’d let you just walk in here and take our money, did you?” The dude with short dark hair grins like the cat that got the fucking cream.

“Our money,” I growl in reply and lunge for one of the assholes.

A shot fires off, but it misses by a mile, and before they can squeeze the trigger again, I crash my body on top of them, sending all three of us to the ground.

“You are so fucking dead,” the other one with the long beard growls at me.

I pull my fist back and punch that fucker right in the nose.

“I think that’s my line, asshole.” Just as the words come out, a fist hits me in the side and knocks the goddamn wind out of me.

“You fuckers wanna fight? Let’s fucking fight!”

And then, I’m a wild man, throwing punches at both assholes until my knuckles are red and bloody, and I keep pounding.

“Save some for me.” Ace’s voice sounds behind me one second and the next, he’s got the dark-haired asshole by the kutte, and he’s throwing punch after punch right in his face.

“Think you can steal my fucking money?” He sends a fist to his nose and one straight to the chest. “You come into my fucking house and steal from me?”

His anger is palpable. He’s on fire as he takes it out on the closest Iron King.

While I’m busy watching Ace, the other fuck sucker punches me, and I turn to him with murder in my eyes. I spit out some blood and wipe my mouth with a smile. “You’re still alive? Let’s change that.”

His eyes widen, and the punk ass bitch tries to crawl away, but that shit’s not gonna happen. I grab his ankle and drag him back as I get to my feet and stomp the back of one knee and then the other.

“Ow, shit!” he screams.

“That’s right, you little bitch!” I grab a handful of his hair and use it as leverage to smash his face into the filthy linoleum of the kitchen that looks like it hasn’t been cleaned up since the nineties.
