The One I Need

CHAPTERTWO
The next day, when he should have been concentrating on his brother’s presentation, Cameron found himself thinking about his upcoming date with Juin that evening.
“Cameron.” JR’s brows pulled together. “Have you heard a word of what I’ve said?”
JR had taken over the predictive analytics side of the business. The move to head Lexico, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Velocity, had been the perfect fit for his data-driven older brother. It had also allowed JR to slide out from under their father’s thumb.
Cameron had taken over that hot seat. Though he had to admit that since he’d returned from Paris, his father hadn’t been too difficult. Not yet, anyway.
“Sorry.” Cameron expelled a breath. “The information you’ve compiled is fascinating. I can’t wait to wade through it all and discuss it in more depth with you.”
JR nodded and sat back in his seat. They were alone in the luxurious boardroom. “If you have any questions, you know where to find me.”
“I do.”
“How are things going? Is Dad—?”
“He and Pops have been focused on shoring up relationships with our wholesale partners, so they’ve left me alone.” Cameron smiled. “Though I have no doubt both of them have their eyes on every decision I’ve made.”
“No doubt.” JR smiled. “Another reason I’m happy to be at Lexico.”
“Your wedding is fast approaching.” Cameron hadn’t been around when Britt had appeared on the scene and stolen his brother’s heart. He liked JR’s fiancée, as did their grandmother, who was always an excellent judge of character. “Any second thoughts?”
“None at all.” JR’s expression softened the way it always did when the subject of his fiancée came up. “Britt is definitely the one for me.”
“It’s hard to believe. You were happily single when I left for Paris, and Nyla was dating Kendall. I come back, and you’re engaged to a woman I’d never met, and Nyla is married to Deron Flock.”
“Getting rid of Kendall was the best thing Nyla ever did. I couldn’t stand the guy.”
“She didn’t waste any time moving on.” Cameron gave a little laugh. “I never imagined her marrying a Flock.”
“Remember the fireworks when that relationship came to light?” JR chuckled. “Pops nearly had another heart attack. And Dad, well, I’ve never seen him that angry.”
“He had to be to fire Nyla.”
“It was a difficult time.” JR took a sip of water. “I never thought I’d say this about a Flock, but Deron is a good guy. He makes Nyla happy.”
“Nyla has always known her own mind.”
“What about you?” JR studied Cameron. “Are you seeing anyone?”
Cameron hesitated. Did lunch followed by dinner plans constitute seeing someone? “Remember Juin?”
The blank look on JR’s face quickly faded to one of recognition. “Sure. The model you dated in Paris.”
“She’s as pretty as a model, but she actually works in tech.” Cameron couldn’t help smiling at the thought of Juin. “She’s back in Denver, and we had lunch yesterday.”
“That’s a coincidence.”
“Not really. The company she works for is based here. Her mother is having some health issues, so she wanted to be close.” Cameron’s fingers curved around his glass of water, but he didn’t drink. “Tonight, we’re going to a barbecue festival.”
JR arched a dark brow. “Two dates in two days? Now, that’s moving quickly.”
Cameron laughed. “‘Moving quickly’ is meeting someone and getting engaged in a matter of months. Sound like anyone we know?”
JR laughed. “Good point. Gran and Pops are having that party in a couple weeks. You should bring her by.”
“If we’re still seeing each other.”
