Anna turns and looks at me. “Really important case.”
“Look it’s not—”
“She already knows, Carson,” Grace says.
“What do you mean she already knows?”
Anna smiles at me as she sets the food bags on the island. “I stopped by here a few weeks ago to pick up your Tupperware and I found Grace in a very similar situation.”
Grace looks at me, her face flushing. “You were in the shower.”
“And you didn’t want to enlighten me that my sister-in-law knows we’re together?”
Anna’s face lights up. “Oh, you’re together now? I thought maybe it was just sex.”
“It was,” Grace says.
Noah claps me on the back. “Well, congrats, little brother. Glad we got here after the sex and didn’t walk in on that.”
“Fuck off.”
“Well, from the look of the steaks on the counter, it looks like we had the same idea.”
Grace looks between all of us and grabs her glass, downing the whole thing and then pouring more.
I walk up to her and kiss her in front of Anna and Noah. If they know, then what’s the harm?
“I should probably put pants on,” she says.
“Probably.”
She slips outside, and I take a sip of my drink while Noah pops open a beer. “Damn, little brother, outside?”
I flip him off. “Stop calling me little brother. I feel like Asher when you say that. And yes, outside. We like to take risks.”
Grace walks in at that moment, and I think she is going to run off embarrassed but then she opens her mouth. “Sometimes he has me sit on his lap while he is on a call and finger fucks me.”
Anna’s face flames and Noah throws his head back in laughter. “Damn, Car, you may have met your match.”
I sure think I have. I glance over at Grace and she winks at me as she heads to the bedroom to change.
“So,” Noah says to me. “I thought she was off-limits.”
I take a sip of my scotch. “She was. She is. Owen doesn’t know,” I say as I scratch the back of my neck.
Anna is in the kitchen, doing whatever the hell she is doing to help with dinner. Probably something better than microwave potatoes. “Well, that sounds like it’s gonna be a mess.”
I shrug. “We just want to see what happens. And then go from there.”
Grace walks back into the kitchen and tosses a shirt at me. “Owen is overprotective of me no matter what. Doesn’t matter if it’s his best friend or his worst enemy, he will have a hissy fit no matter what.”
The rest of the night goes surprisingly well. I have to hand it off to Grace for not freaking out when my family showed up. But since she and Anna are friends and since Anna apparently already knew about us, it made it easier.
Grace stayed the night, and it was like back in Wilmington. Fucking perfection. And when she leaves in the morning, she gives me a kiss and tells me she will see me in the office.

“Hey man, can I talk to you for a second?” Owen asks me as we are leaving a meeting with the partners.
