Chapter Eleven

~ Mars ~

For all the things I hated about my life, there were perks. One of them being access to my dad’s private plane. The second being the woman who’d sat beside me for the short flight.

I’d experienced unbelievable relief when she’d appeared in the driveway tonight. Which was crazy. I knew she was coming. Despite following my usual routine, she’d managed to corner me this morning and tell me she was coming, so not to leave without her.

I’d pulled her into the nearest deserted room and kissed the hell out of her. I couldn’t get enough of touching her, kissing her. I’d been hard as a rock and we’d both been breathless when I’d let her go.

“Someday, we’re going to wake up together every morning and I’m going to fuck you until we both can’t walk. Each and every day,” I’d promised.

“That’ll make it hard for us to get on with our day.”

I’d noticed she didn’t refute that it would happen. I’d shrugged. “Then I guess we’ll just have to stay horizontal and do it again.”

Needy for her, I’d pulled her back against my chest, but before I could seal my lips over hers, her friend Kinley had come down the corridor, whisper-yelling for her.

Now, I pulled Reba’s hand closer and played with her fingers while we sat side by side on the bench seat. I wanted to slide my ring on her, but it was too soon for that. I also wanted to join the mile-high club with her, but I refused to have our first time be on this plane.

Maybe on the way back.

“I’ve never been to a Character Con or anything like it,” she said. “Do you do this a lot?”

“This one is actually a fan expo. But yeah, when I can get away, I like cosplaying. I get to be someone I’m not. Embodying another character.”

“And who will you be this weekend?”

“Han Solo…always Han.”

She chuckled. “A Star Wars fan? At least, I’m somewhat familiar with that franchise. Will I be your princess?”

I knew she’d seen the costumes I’d bought her.

“My princess. Always.”

She leaned toward me. “I think Always is from Harry Potter.”

I caught her chin in my hand before she could sit back. “And I think…you’re beautiful.”

My lips skimmed hers, just as the pilot came on overhead to announce we were about to land.

“It’s weird to be on a plane and hear them address you directly, Mr. Marshall,” Reba teased while she fastened her seatbelt for landing.

“I hadn’t really thought about it. Truth is, I’ve flown this way for my entire life. As far as I can recall, I’ve never flown commercial.”

Her lips quirked. “Spoiled. One day, I’m going to drag you onto a regular flight in economy class. Just so you know how good you’ve got it.”

“No…” I protested dramatically, clutching my chest. In actuality, her statement excited me. It promised the future I desperately wanted with her.

It wasn’t long before we landed and deplaned. A town car sped us through Chicago, heading for the Magnificent Mile and the Four Seasons where I had one of the coveted corner suites that would have a view of both the city and Lake Michigan.

My driver had already checked us in, so I swept Reba past the marble reception desk and over to the elevators that would take us to the thirtieth floor. The attendant at the desk recognized me and discreetly didn’t say a word when I bypassed him.

“Oh my God,” she whispered while she took in the opulence I usually took for granted. Even though I was moving from home, this was something she’d need to get accustomed to. This was my life. This would be our life.

Reba breathed a long oh when we entered the suite, and I tried to see it through her eyes. A bright spacious living room area, decorated in neutral tones. Huge windows with high views of the area. There was also a galley kitchen with a window seat overlooking the city, a dining area, and…

“Just one bed,” she observed when we entered the bedroom of the suite.
