“My best heart wants to choose you, Giana Thompson.

Marrying you wasn’t a mistake. It might not have been very

real then, but I’d like it to be that way now. I’d like us both to

choose it. If you want to wait and you’re just asking me

because you think you should, then we don’t have to. I’m

perfectly fine with knowing that I’m your partner. That’s

always going to be more than enough.”

“I’d like you to be my wife.” Giana was all conviction.

“Again.” She even smiled at that. “When I met you, all of the

bad started to uncoil and unlock in me and I was finally able to

talk and let it out and let someone else into the space it was

taking up in me. People think that lonely people are empty, but

usually they’re too full of all that other crap to make room for

anything else. You changed that, and you changed me. You

don’t just have a piece of my heart. It’s entirely yours, and I

know that you’ll always keep it safe.”

Coralyn was smiling so wide that it hurt. It was so cold, but

on that bench, she was glowing and warm. “And you say

you’re not eloquent.”

Giana rolled her eyes. “If I am, it’s because I’ve read it in all

those sappy novels you’ve got me hooked on. I’ve been

storing it up, memorizing bits and pieces to apply at the

perfect moment.”

That was bullshit, but Coralyn was wiling to play along. “I

must say, you have an excellent memory.”

“I’m kidding. Only some of that stuff was from books.”

“You found out how joyful and wonderful sappy romance

could be. Admit it, you love them.”

“I’ll forever remain in firm denial of knowing anything

about that.” Giana’s eyes sparkled even if she pretended to
