awkward. This woman was the enemy, yet she was also their
savior.
Claire swept her hand, which was slim and jewellery free, in
the direction of a seat in front of her huge desk. A black
leather chair. “Please sit.” She didn’t offer a drink, but this
wasn’t a business meeting. Her face remained impassive as she
sat, but she was cold. So cold that it emanated from her,
freezing out the beauty of the afternoon.
This was the beginning of her prison sentence.

to be online.”
“I-I couldn’t.” That’s not what Haley wanted to say, but she
was shocked. Claire was well informed. She should have
expected that. There was probably nothing about Haley’s life
that was a secret any longer. “They wouldn’t let me because
it’s halfway through already.”
Claire inclined her head, putting her slim, elegant neck on
display. If Haley had done the same thing, it would have

no matter. You know the rules. I’ll have a driver take you to
your classes and pick you up. Your car will be stored after you
unpack. You won’t be needing it. I’m now responsible for
every aspect of your life. Your meals will be prepared for you
here. Anywhere you need to go, you will clear it with my
security first. If you have appointments, they will be scheduled
for you. This is not a prison, but you are under my care now,
and as such, I will take good care of you. I promised your
father that nothing would happen to you. I trust that he
explained these rules to you?”
