“What do you mean you can’t?” she asked patiently. With
infinite gentleness. She was robbed of the need for control, for

Claire allowed a rare, genuine smile to break free. “No. Not
right now. If you’re willing to learn, then I’m willing to teach
you. It’s an agreement of our own. Between us. Innocence is a
precious, amazing thing.” Hang onto it, she wanted to scream.
