was still serious about it in college. She didn’t party and do the
fun stuff that most people did. She was perfectly content to
have fun in different ways, by hanging out with her friends or
attending rallies for causes that she cared about, or running in
marathons for charity, volunteering, that kind of thing. She
wasn’t one to fixate on anyone that Haley had ever seen. She
didn’t crush and she didn’t act silly.
Amy, on the other hand, was the exact opposite, and that
was perfectly fine. Her best friends were so different from
each other, but Haley never wanted or needed them to be the
same. They all got along, and they supported and cheered each
other on and that was the best part of their friendship.
Haley filed the looks that Elva had given Jenny away to the
back corner of her brain. She was no matchmaker. God, she
could barely figure out what she was doing with Claire, but
she would talk to Elva about it later. Meaning if she ever
brought it up.
After Claire and Jenny were gone, Amy stepped forward
and elbowed Haley. “She’s hot,” she whispered in her ear.
“Like, seriously hot. Are you sure there isn’t anything going
on?”
Haley’s face burned brutally hot, and she sidestepped out of
the kitchen with a wave to Jean. Snake followed after the three
of them but hung back when it was clear that Haley was just
going into the music room. It was a gorgeous room with wood
all over the floor, walls, and ceiling. The acoustics in there
were unparalleled. Whoever had designed the room and
bought the lovely grand piano was someone Haley sent out a
silent thank you to every time she played.
“Oh wow,” Amy gushed as soon as Haley opened the door.
