was still serious about it in college. She didn’t party and do the

fun stuff that most people did. She was perfectly content to

have fun in different ways, by hanging out with her friends or

attending rallies for causes that she cared about, or running in

marathons for charity, volunteering, that kind of thing. She

wasn’t one to fixate on anyone that Haley had ever seen. She

didn’t crush and she didn’t act silly.

Amy, on the other hand, was the exact opposite, and that

was perfectly fine. Her best friends were so different from

each other, but Haley never wanted or needed them to be the

same. They all got along, and they supported and cheered each

other on and that was the best part of their friendship.

Haley filed the looks that Elva had given Jenny away to the

back corner of her brain. She was no matchmaker. God, she

could barely figure out what she was doing with Claire, but

she would talk to Elva about it later. Meaning if she ever

brought it up.

After Claire and Jenny were gone, Amy stepped forward

and elbowed Haley. “She’s hot,” she whispered in her ear.

“Like, seriously hot. Are you sure there isn’t anything going

on?”

Haley’s face burned brutally hot, and she sidestepped out of

the kitchen with a wave to Jean. Snake followed after the three

of them but hung back when it was clear that Haley was just

going into the music room. It was a gorgeous room with wood

all over the floor, walls, and ceiling. The acoustics in there

were unparalleled. Whoever had designed the room and

bought the lovely grand piano was someone Haley sent out a

silent thank you to every time she played.

“Oh wow,” Amy gushed as soon as Haley opened the door.
