Ainsley smirked, knowing where this was going.
“Are you in the habit of bringing women to this establishment often?” Rachel asked, in a lilting, just kidding manner.
“No, my lovely,” she answered. “I’ve only ever been here with my parents, actually. Twice. And I’m pretty sure the staff here would remember me even without my family name. After all, I’m sure not many folks come in here with their blonde Amazonian daughter.”
“Are both of your parents tall?” Rachel asked.
“No!” Ainsley said, laughing. “Isn’t genetics a funny thing? I tower over both of them! Even my dad is only five-six, shorter than you. But my maternal grandfather is a giant! He’s six-ten! Anyway, when I was a teenager and already taller than my parents, people who hadn’t known us for a long time often thought I was adopted.”
“That’s funny,” Rachel said.
The sommelier appeared at their table and discussed wines, making suggestions based on the potential entrée choices they had from the limited menu. After some discussion, Ainsley and Rachel decided on a bottle of French white, regardless of what they’d eventually choose for dinner.
Under the table, their legs were touching and the feel of Rachel’s ultrasmooth skin on hers was creating a frisson of excitement in Ainsley.
“I am buzzing!” Rachel said softly.
“Are you?” Ainsley purred, knowing her voice got to Rachel.
“Very much so,” Rachel answered softly.
“So, you want more?”
“I do.”
Ainsley felt her center revving up again. The possibilities were…intoxicating! So much so that Ainsley’s moral compass started warning her…
Rachel was someone she really cared about. Their friendship had developed quickly and she really liked Rachel as a person.
With this in mind, Ainsley didn’t want to risk starting to view this wonderful new friend as just someone who was satisfying her erotic desires for being the one to introduce a woman to the joys of lesbian sex.
A server brought a plate of breads and cheeses. Another server took their entrée orders. The sommelier returned with their wine.
Once all of those folks had left, Ainsley dived in…
“So…” she began, running her fingertip over the top of Rachel’s hand, “…what’s going on between us? I mean, I really like you, Rachel. And I’m fine just being your friend if that’s what you want. I’d maybe even be okay with being your friend with benefits, if that’s what you want, but…do you want more?”
Ainsley knew she could stop there and let Rachel answer her question. But she also knew Rachel would most probably just ask something like, “More what?”, putting the ball back in Ainsley’s court.
So, Ainsley went on.
“As much as I value your friendship, Rach, I’m also super attracted to you and would like to date you, is what I’m saying,” she declared. “If that’s not in the cards, fine; we can just be friends.”
“Or friends with benefits,” Rachel suggested.
“Right,” Ainsley managed to say in her normal voice even though her heart just dropped a little.
“I don’t want to be friends with benefits,” Rachel said. “I’d like to date you also.”
Ainsley couldn’t help smiling and feeling like a teenager again. Nonetheless, Rachel’s answer just brought up more questions.
“Buuuut,” she began, “you’ve never dated a woman before.”
“I know,” Rachel stated, taking Ainsley’s hand in her own. “Ains, this is weird for me too, okay? And I don’t know why all of a sudden I meet you and, bam, I’m into women. But, maybe it’s not that I’m into women; maybe it’s that I’m into one woman. I don’t know. But I want to explore this thing with you as a couple thing, not an experiment thing or a friends with benefits thing.”
“So you want to be my girlfriend?” Ainsley asked.
Rachel smirked and Ainsley just wanted to reach across the table and kiss her.
