And what about Maximo?
My little brother only wants to play with Winter, it’s his favorite thing to do after all. Find little toys and play with them until he breaks them, then he finds another.
I can’t have him breaking Winter though, that job belongs to me and me only.
At this rate, I need to lock her in her room and keep her away from any and everyone to make sure no one puts a hitch in my plans. I can’t have Vito trying to protect her when it’s time to use her and I can’t have Maximo destroying her before I can get to her.
Did I bring her here too early?
The thought is one I’ve had more than once. I hadn’t planned to keep Winter for a whole year, and I still don’t. I’ll be done with her long before December gets here again. But I hadn’t anticipated the problems that would arise from having her in the compound every day for months.
I hadn’t anticipated everyone’s reactions to her, rightfully so.
Vito hasn’t looked for a woman to keep since he lost the last one. It’s always just been sex. But the way he looks at Winter, it promises more than that.
Maximo hasn’t swapped toys since he found Enzo. For better or worse, he’s kept the soldier around longer than anyone else and he hasn’t showed any signs of trading him any time soon. Even now, it’s clear he still plans on playing with Enzo while he does the same with Winter.
And me… I don’t hate her as much as I should.
I certainly don’t like her, but she isn’t the worst. Sure, she’s getting more than a little mouthy and every time she gives me that little innocent, clueless look, I want to wipe it off her face. And she’d had the audacity to go out and let another man put their hands on her.
I’d let what she’d done with Vito and Maximo go, but a complete stranger… she’d crossed the line.
But still, I should hate her more than I do.
Because in a couple of months, no matter how much I don’t hate her, Winter Chastine and Maddox Hawthorne will both meet their ends at my hands.
And not a damn thing will stop me.
