I whispered back, “Neither did she.” His nose brushed against mine, both of us holding dreamy smiles that said the three words we weren’t ready to voice yet.
By the time the movie was over, we were both half asleep, snuggled in each other’s arms. I laid flat on my back with Grant resting his head on my chest and my fingers running through his hair. Who knew this giant bear could be so cuddly?
“Hey, June?” I looked down at him, surprised he said my first name.
“Yeah?” My voice was wary, unsure of what he was going to say. His voice sounded sleepy like he could barely stay awake long enough to finish his sentence. “My sister’s coming to town this week. I…want you to meet her.”
Do not freak out. Do not freak out. This is no big deal.
“Sounds…great.”
There were two things I knew for certain at that moment: 1. I was deeply in love with Grant Dawes. 2. I was inevitably going to have a broken heart.
Grant swiftly fell asleep, whereas I stayed up for hours.
