He coughs. “What? Like it’s such a bad thing?”
“You confuse me.”
“And you piss me off.”
A light chuckle surfaces as I tighten my arms around his muscular form, embracing the way his body curves around mine. He probably wasn’t lying when he said he would protect me. But how can he promise that? Lev promised the same thing.
Just look what happened to him as a result.
“Can I, uh…” He clears his throat, the sound vibrating in his chest. “Can I drive you home?”
“Yeah, that would be great.”
When he releases me, he takes my hand. The gesture is odd but comforting, making me feel more like his equal than his possession. And maybe that’s not his intention, but I could totally get used to it.
