Bianca’s airy voice almost made Sam forget where she was. I’m back in that locker room after high school soccer practice, my teammate daring me to kiss her when we think we’re alone. That moment had been one of the high points of her life. She’d had no idea it would cause her life to come crashing down soon afterward.
“Who’s this?” Bianca said.
Sam cleared her throat. “Ms. Black. This is Sam Reddy. I’m calling to let you know that I’m happy to become your personal bodyguard for the foreseeable future.”
Silence hung on the line between them. Just when Sam began to wonder if the call had dropped, Bianca finally spoke.
“I wasn’t expecting that.” She didn’t hide the smugness from her voice. “I thought you weren’t interested in taking the job yourself.”
Don’t push your luck, princess.“I’ve reevaluated your family’s needs and I feel I am the best person for this particular job, after all. If you’re still interested, of course.”
“Oh, I’m interested. And I’m glad you changed your mind. I’ll make sure you won’t regret it.”
The purr in Bianca’s voice was enough to have Sam questioning her decision all over again. Because that something inside her that she did her best to ignore was stirring again…
