Instead, she said, “I’m going out. Shopping. I could use some new clothes.”
Sam, who remained planted in the middle of the hallway, pocketed her phone and crossed her arms. Devour me with that glare, would you? It was taking all Bianca’s willpower to ignore the flutter in her heart and the leaping in her stomach.
“All right,” Sam said. “Get your things and let’s go.”
“Actually, I was hoping we could take your BMW. The teal one. It looks fun.” Offer to kill my innocence in the backseat, while you’re at it. Just like that woman in the club.
Sam shook her head. “I’ll accompany you on personal errands, but my car is off-limits for anything but emergencies. And driving you around is not in my contract. I’m not your chauffeur.”
“Okay. I guess I could call the car service we have on standby, but Mom took the dedicated family driver out to the country club today. It will take them forever to send someone.”
Bianca let out a dramatic sigh, curling her hair around a finger as she leaned against the width of her doorframe. Her sweater pulled up her torso, exposing her midriff.
But Sam’s gaze didn’t waver. What would it take to make her look? Bianca hadn’t seen a wedding ring. Nor had she heard any mention of a partner, a girlfriend or boyfriend. The latter seemed unlikely. Bianca had spent enough time around Parker and her friends that she’d developed a sense for these things. Plus, nothing about Sam was subtle.
“I supposed I can drive myself,” she said. “If it’s not against your contract to ride shotgun.”
Was one of Sam’s immaculate eyebrows twitching? “Sure…”
“I’ve got this sporty little Corvette. A gift from my sister Parker. You’ve met her, I’m sure. She loves cars. The faster, the better. Me? I only drive a few times a year because it makes me really anxious. It took me three tries to pass the test. But it’s not too far to the mall from here.”
She could practically see the calculations appearing behind Sam’s astute eyes. “A Corvette, huh?”
Bianca nodded. “It goes so fast.” She was laying it on a little thick, but it was working. “You ever just gun it down the highway around here? Popping in and out of tunnels? It’s the best when it’s raining. Like a big splash of life on the windshield.”
Sam’s brows drew together. She looked more tired than Scarlett after a long day of work and navigating family politics. “I think it’s best if I drive you. In my car.”
Bianca shrugged her shoulders. “If you insist.” She flashed Sam her sweetest smile. “Sorry to put you out like this. I really appreciate you.”
Not it.
You.
Sure enough, Sam did a double-take from her phone, which she had pulled back out of her pocket, probably to update their itinerary for the day. As Bianca closed the door, she saw enough of Sam’s pinkish cheeks and puffed-out chest to know that she had gotten past her stoic bodyguard’s guard.
Her smile remained on her lips as she headed into her bedroom to get ready. Not only were her charms effective against Sam, but there was definitely something there. Some mutually reciprocated attraction.
Sam had blushed. Sam was into her.
All Bianca had to do was break through those impenetrable defenses of hers.
